Welch Allyn Releases new Green Series Medical Lights
December 9th, 2009

Welch Allyn are introducing the groundbreaking new family of medical lights, the Green Series.  The Green Series presents a whiter, brighter and greener way of seeing your patients. After a long history of leadership in the medical lighting technology field, Welch Allyn are among the first to utilize LED (light emitting diode) technology in their medical exam lights.

The state-of-the-art LED lamps provide a superior light while also reducing environmental impact. The lamps are whiter, 5,500 degree Kelvin, making them significantly brighter than traditional halogen lamps. The LEDs also provide true tissue colour rendition and uniform spot allowing for improved clarity in  both examinations and procedures.

Welch Allyn are furthering their commitment to reducing environmental impact, as represented by their Energy Star Partner Status, with the energy efficient features of the new Green Series. The LED lamps last over 50,000 hours, eliminating the need for bulb replacement and reducing the cost of ownership. Cost of ownership is also reduced through the overall lower energy consumption and lack of heat dissipation, which also builds comfort and safety.

The new lights also feature innovative benefits to improve ergonomics, convenience and infection control. Each lamp utilises a touchless auto on/off power control; the light can be turned on or off by a simple wave of the hand over the power source, reducing the need for contact with the light. Additionally the lights are designed with ergonomics in mind, making them easy to clean, and come with disposable sheaths to covert the lightpipe and handles during exams and procedures.  The lamps also provide multiple mounting options, making them suitable for most applications in the office and hospital. The mounting options include ceiling mounts for the first time, maximising floor space during examinations and procedures.

The Green Series includes:

The GS Exam Light IV, suitable for OB/GYN or other situations where pinpoint accuracy is required. The GS Exam Light IV provides 3x the typical light output and features a highly flexible light pipe, twice the length of conventional pipes.

The GS 300 General Exam Light combines an intense light output with cool operation and compact design to result in an affordable and rugged light suitable for in-office exams.

The GS 600 Minor Procedure Light employs three LEDs and a wider head to give enhanced performance, accuracy and brilliant colour in any healthcare environment. Includes a light dimming option to modify the intensity of light output as needs change.

GS 900 Procedure Light, with six LEDs, combines durability and maneuverability to make it the ideal procedure light.  Multiple mounting options, including ceiling, make the GS 900 versatile and  unobtrusive. This model also includes  a light intensity control to customise the light output.

The new Green Series Medical Lights from Welch Allyn provide exceptional light, convenience and energy efficiency.

Nintendo Vital Sign Sensor

Nintendo Vital Sign Sensor

The medical SpO2 sensor that attaches to the hand control should be available in 2010. Not too many details have been released, but we can assume it will provide oxygen readings as well as heart rate.  This is probably a good thing considering the Nintendo Wii in recent years has focused on improving the activity levels of users with software applications such as Wii fit.

Nothing is known yet on the clinical accuracy of the product,  or if it will be available in the Australian market.  It will be interesting to see if it has TGA classification

If the product is TGA registered let us know if you think Medshop should stock the item.
